Introduction:
This seminar examines architectural archives as active spaces shaped by preservation, omission, and technological change. Rather than treating archives as neutral repositories, the course approaches them as active infrastructures that produce architectural knowledge through classification, mediation, and exclusion. Particular attention is given to born-digital archives and their challenges, including obsolescence, metadata issues, access, and ethical considerations.
Through theoretical readings, case-study research, and guided writing, students analyze architectural archives as sites where loss and endurance coexist. The seminar emphasizes architectural analysis through close reading of archival materials, critical engagement with archival theory, and the development of research-based essays. Writing and discussion are integrated into each session, aimed at developing writing and storytelling skills.
