Curating the City. 100 Years of International Building Exhibitions (IBA)

Architekturanalyse / Architectural analysis (AR30076)
The century between 1927 and 2027 saw the rise of a curatorial format starting with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s and Lilly Reich’s curatorship of Die Wohnung with the famous Weißenhof settlement at Stuttgart.
Based on knowledge provided about the history of modern exhibitions and exhibition typologies, the seminar researches the key content of IBAs at cities or postindustrial areas. It also includes the current IBA’27 at Stuttgart, which brings the IBA century to a close, and critically examines plans for IBAs 2034 at Munich and at Berlin.
The seminar assessment comprises short presentations, group discussions, and producing case examples of an IBA concept as part of the final group assignment.
