Final Review and Exhibition Public Technology Lab – Curiosity on the Move at the Chair of Design and Transdisciplinarity. 

About the project:
Three decades of research clearly show: people affected by new, transformational technologies should have a real say in how they're developed and governed. Yet today, everyday citizens are rarely brought into the process in any meaningful way, especially in early stages. This is, at its core, a design problem. Where and how researchers show up shapes who gets curious, and feels welcome to take part – or not.

The Public Technology Lab—part of TUM's cluster of excellence TransforM—is built to address that: This converted shipping container will go on the road, bringing research directly to the people. By spending extended time in one place and building real relationships with local communities, researchers can learn from and with the public, using new participatory and co-creative methods of innovation.

Throughout the summer semester 2026, three student teams collaborated closely with researchers and members of the public to design intentional provocations of what this might look like, laying the groundwork for the implementation of the Public Technology Lab in the coming months.

For the final presentation, the designs are built as 1:1 spatial prototypes.
