Parity Jour Fixe Special: Opening of the Exhibition “Young Global Women in Architecture"
Hosted by the The Centre for Urbanisation and Peripheralization (CUSP) and the Chair of Spatial Planning and Development, and developed by humantektur, we warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Young Global Women in Architecture – Intersectional and Intercultural Sensitization of the Next Generation of Architects” on June 24.
The opening is presented as “Parity Jour Fixe Special” at the Department of Architecture of the TUM School of Engineering and Design (ED).
Program:
18:00: Welcome & Opening
- Prof. Dr. Lindsay Blair Howe (Chair of Spatial Planning and Development, TUM)
- Joined by Simphiwe Mlambo (UCT, Cape Town/ Johannesburg), on her work as a practitioner, teacher, and PhD student
- Dr. Maike Buttler (Managing Director of the NGO humantektur, Berlin), introduction to the exhibition
18:25: Short Presentations by international female architects and scholars
- Dr. Bedour Braker (architect researcher and co-founder of Jan Braker Architekt, Hamburg), insights from her talk "Tracing Her City: Gendered Urban Paths and Cultural Bridges in Design from Cairo to Hamburg"
- Catharina Meier (architectural designer, founder of Alidé Studio, Berlin, and head of the networks Black Creative Builders and Architektinnen* in Berlin) who will share insights from her practice and networks in her talk “From Design to Advocacy: Expanding Architectural Practice”.
19:05: Panel Discussion (moderated by Prof. Dr. Lindsay Blair Howe)
An international dialogue with students and young professionals exploring intersectional feminist perspectives, the transition from academia to practice, and strategies to challenge systemic inequalities in architecture and urban planning, with:
- Elisa Breyer (TUM) - Student in Urban Studies and Sustainable Development
- Anne Schlumbohm (TUM) - Architecture student
- Maria Al-Khouri - Representing the student collective LOOM (BHT)
- Mayte Durán - Mexican architect who has worked in the US, currently studying at FHP (Potsdam) and member of perspektiv;wechsel
- Lucie Bortoli - French Caribbean architect, studied in France and Colombia, currently working with NGO humantektur
Exhibition Tour & Get-Together - Light snacks and drinks will be provided
