Interactive Visualization
The seminar explores the intersection of architecture, extended reality (XR), and digital culture. It engages with fundamental questions such as what constitutes virtual architecture? and examines how architectural thinking can inform the design of immersive, shared digital spaces. Through research and prototype development, students investigate the potential of XR as a medium for spatial experience, representation, and collaboration.
This semester, in collaboration with the University of Education, Winneba (Ghana), we will focus on designing and building a digital exhibition space around the theme of lifelong learning. Drawing on the Adinkra symbol Nea Onnim No Sua Ohu — "he who does not know can know from learning" the seminar takes curiosity, openness, and the pursuit of knowledge as its guiding ideas. Using 3D scans of cultural objects from Ghana, students are invited to experiment with how virtual architecture can curate, contextualize, and stage objects as starting points for discovery and understanding. The seminar challenges participants to think beyond physical constraints: How can we craft a spatial narrative in XR that unfolds as a path of learning? What forms of interaction, immersion, and exchange can emerge in a purely digital museum environment built around the idea of continuous learning? Together, we will prototype a digital space that demonstrates how architectural design can turn the museum experience into a virtual space for lifelong learning.
