Simulation-Based Design Planning in an Urban Planning Context, Taking into Account Energy and Indoor Climate Aspects
Decisions made as early as the initial, creative urban design phases not only have a significant impact on the scope and structure of subsequent planning phases but also play a decisive role in determining the energy efficiency and indoor climate quality of buildings. However, these aspects are often neglected or not given sufficient attention during the early planning phases—particularly at the urban design level. As part of this research project, the urban design, computer-aided design platform “CDP // Collaborative Design Platform”—already developed by the Chair of Architectural Informatics—will be expanded to include additional components for determining the energy performance of buildings as well as their indoor environmental qualities through an interdisciplinary collaboration with the Chair of Building Technology and Climate-Responsive Construction. The overarching goal is the urban planning, energy, and indoor climate optimization of local planning projects in the early design phase. For the first time, this research approach combines the assessment of outdoor space quality, indoor space quality, and energy efficiency at the urban planning level—seamlessly integrated into a creative, computer-aided, interdisciplinary planning phase.
