Rural Resources Horst
DESCRIPTION
The AND HANDS ON WORKSHOP with the theme Rural Resources – HORST focuses on the construction of a new canopy of the large greenhouse structure with a hyperlocal approach using bio-based materials sourced directly from the grounds of the HORST Arts and Music Festival in Brussels. Until now, the roof structure has been covered with plastic sheeting, which is now to be replaced. The preparatory workshops in the weeks leading up to the festival are called “HORST Atelier”. Our professorship will take over part of it.
Abundant plants became the starting point for the design of our workshop: Japanese knotweed is an invasive plant on the HORST festival site that has been harvested in autumn 2024 and is now waiting to be processed into a novel biogenic material. The Bioregional Design Lab at the Technical University of Munich developed and tested the material for the roof structures that will be the focus. A thin biogenic membrane will be produced in the one-week workshop on-site and will finally be attached to the construction as a roof over a dancefloor.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Our workshop will take place from 6-12 April 2025 on the festival site at Asiat-Park in Vilvoorde, where the students will also stay overnight in tents, as will all the other festival helpers who will be preparing other parts of the festival site for the start of the festival at the beginning of May. Please organise your own camping equipment, arrival and departure. We kindly ask all participants to arrive on the 6th of April in the afternoon to start with a welcome and a short introduction. Catering is included.
In addition to our workshop, the festival organisers will offer a small optional evening programme to get to know each other.
