Digital Fabrication Research | WS 26/27
In the course "Digital Fabrication Research", students work on selected scientific questions from the research fields of the Professorship of Digital Fabrication. The focus lies on computational design methods, digital workflows, robotic assembly, additive manufacturing, and the investigation of new material and construction systems. Depending on the chosen topic, prior knowledge of digital design tools or fabrication methods may be helpful.
Students will learn to independently investigate a research topic, conduct literature reviews, develop scientific methodologies, and critically analyse their results. The course emphasises both theoretical and practical exploration, with outcomes documented in written reports, presentations, and, where relevant, physical or digital prototypes.
Work is carried out either individually or in group under close supervision, including regular meetings. Interim and final presentations allow for discussion and feedback. A final report (max. 30 pages) is required, summarising the research question, methodology, results, and outlook.
Students interested in participating should review the available research topics below and select a topic that matches their interests. They should then contact the researcher responsible for the respective topic by email, briefly introducing their academic background (degree programme and relevant courses or experience) and explaining in a few sentences why they are interested in the topic. After contacting the researcher, students are expected to attend the kick-off meeting, where the topics, research process, and further course organisation will be discussed.
