Reading Group: Machines, Materiality & Making
This seminar Reading Group: Machines, Materiality & Making introduces students to emerging and critical perspectives on digital fabrication in architecture, with a focus on the interplay between machines, materiality, and making. Through curated readings and discussions, students will engage with scholarly work on topics such as robotic construction, material agency, automation and labour, machine intelligence in design, craft and computation, and sustainable fabrication processes. Each term will focus on a set of core themes, and students will analyse contemporary and historical texts that reflect the theoretical, technical, and cultural dimensions of these themes. Students will actively contribute to shaping the seminar through discussion moderation, peer feedback, and shared inquiry.
