Character of thesis
The Chair of Green Technologies in Landscape Architecture (GTLA) at TUM invites submissions of thesis proposals with a primary focus on landscape architecture, while also welcoming architects and contributions from related disciplines. In line with the Chair’s research-driven approach, students are encouraged to engage critically and to explore the interrelations between design and research when addressing environmental, technological, and spatial questions. The Chair particularly welcomes topics involving design-based research, (blue-)green infrastructure and architecture, Baubotanik, climate adaptation and mitigation, and design for biodiversity. These may be supported by data-driven, computational, and parametric tools.
Within this framework, design and research approaches that engage with plant growth, transformation, and long-term processes are of particular interest. Prototype development – as a means of testing spatial, material, constructive, technical, or digital strategies – also serves as an important methodological reference. Students wishing to complete a thesis at GTLA must have successfully completed at least two seminars and one studio offered by the Chair (the studio requirement applies only to landscape architecture students). In addition, students are expected to be familiar with the chair’s research and publications, which are available via Google Scholar.
