The Studio Baubotanik Playground targets the need for a playground for the new urban development that will link the Campus Garching with the town of Garching (“Kommunikationszone” by Keller Damm Kollegen, winner of the design competition in 2012).
Building upon our previous Design Build Grow studios, the Studio Baubotanik Playground aims to enrich the current state of playground design with the use of Baubotanik. Therefore, living trees will play an integral role not only in the overall playground design but also in the play structures themselves.
The task includes a site analysis to find a suitable spot for the playground and the design of a Baubotanik playground that offers recreational value to the university campus in Garching and meets the needs of the future inhabitants of the new living quarter in the town of Garching. Further, the design will include implementation strategies and the first steps of an implementation plan.
The Design-Build-Grow Studio at gtla* distinguishes itself through interdisciplinary cooperation to solve fascinating challenges in designing, planning, and implementing Baubotanik structures. It offers students access to diverse topics such as parametric tools and mechanical performances, as well as hands-on activities like prototyping structures involved in living architecture design.
We welcome students from both the Bachelor’s program (7th semester) and those from the Master’s program in Landscape Architecture.
If you are interested in participating in the Studio Baubotanik Playground, please contact Christoph Fleckenstein (christoph.fleckenstein@tum.de).
Information about the studio will be presented on October 14 at 16:00 in room E42, in Freising.
