Design Build - Transformation
Project MA - Architecture and Timber Construction
Winter term 26/27 (15 ECTS)
Building on the findings of the diversEFH research project, this study examines strategies for the structural transformation of existing detached houses. The design project focuses on the development and construction of a prototype extension to a prefabricated timber house in the Fellbach show home park. The extension is intended to demonstrate how an existing detached house can be converted into two independent residential units whilst being equipped with a sustainable energy supply. At the start of the semester, the focus is on analysing the existing building and developing and planning suitable conversion strategies for the entire house. As the semester progresses, the emphasis shifts to the detailed design of the prototype extension. During the subsequent semester break, one of the proposals developed during the design phase will be realised in collaboration with the prefabricated timber house company BauFritz at the Fellbach show home park as part of a seminar.
Students taking the seminar will be given priority when places are allocated for the design project.
