IPD Project: Micro Office

The Architecture of Focus, Flow, and Privacy
15 ECTS | Project for Master Students
How little space do we need to work well?
The Micro Office explores the future of focused work through a compact spatial intervention: a place to concentrate, retreat, think, and get into flow. How can architecture create privacy without isolation? How can light, material, acoustics, ergonomics, and atmosphere turn a minimal footprint into a great place to work?
Starting in teams of two, students will develop their own Micro Office concepts through rapid experiments and physical scale models. From these proposals, one concept will be selected and taken to the next level: a full-scale 1:1 prototype, designed, detailed, and built together by the entire group.
The project is an opportunity to move beyond drawings and renderings and experience what happens when an idea becomes real space.
To enable the full-scale build, each participant contributes €150 toward materials for the 1:1 prototype. Costs for individual scale models, experiments, and documentation/printing are covered separately by each student.
Pre-registration is possible by email to teaching.ipd@ed.tum.de.
