Eiermann Campus Reloaded

Stuttgart is growing. Its high quality of life and strong economy continue to attract new residents, resulting in increasing demand for housing as well as for a wide range of commercial uses.
At the same time, available land is becoming increasingly scarce. In addition to urban densification, the potential of obsolete sites must therefore be consistently unlocked through adaptive reuse. Today, however, the sites awaiting transformation are no longer the historic inner-city industrial areas that drove urban regeneration for decades.
Instead, the large-scale sites of the automobile age are gradually becoming available for redevelopment. Highly optimised, located on the urban fringe, and yet—like the Eiermann Campus in Vaihingen—of outstanding cultural significance and architectural quality, they call for new approaches to transformation.
How can this process of adaptive reuse succeed?
