Cardboard relief sections along the Mediterranean coast

Mediterranean coastlines are undergoing heavy transformation due to climate change. Sea level rise, erosion, pollution, and sudden storm surges reshape littoral landscapes and destabilise the relationship between land, water, ecology, and settlement. At the same time, the population of coastal Mediterranean regions continue to increase, indicating that human activities and infrastructure will persist. How can waterfront landscapes accommodate the growing population, while confronting the challenges of climate change? By the year 2100, the Mediterranean coast may no longer be understood as a fixed line between land and sea, but rather as a constantly shifting inhabitable zone.
Imagine a future seafront landscape system capable of supporting the continuation of human and non-human life along the coast by adapting, retreating, defending or acting as a hybrid. In this short-term design, you will build two cardboard relief-section models at scale 1:100 that illustrate the status quo in 2026 of a chosen Mediterranean coastline and its transformation under a chosen principle in the year 2100.
