Gabrielle Schaad studierte Kunstgeschichte, Ostasiatische Kunstgeschichte und Mittelalterarchäologie in Zürich, Paris und Tokio. Ihre 2016 an der ETH Zürich abgeschlossene Promotion fokussierte die Fallstricke des Technologieoptimismus in japanischer Kunst und Architektur der 1960er-Jahre. 2016 war sie Stipendiatin der Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart und von 2013 bis 2015 Research Exchange Student des japanischen Bildungsministeriums (MEXT) in Tokio und Saitama. 2011 initiierte sie das nomadische Ausstellungs- und Diskussionsformat Le Foyer – In Process. Neben früherer Tätigkeit als kuratorische Assistentin, u. a. am Kunstmuseum Luzern und Kunsthaus Zürich, ist sie Autorin zahlreicher Katalogbeiträge und Kritiken zum zeitgenössischen Kunstschaffen an der Schnittstelle zu Architektur und Urbanismus. 2017–2019 unterrichtete sie als Wissenschaftliche Assistentin an der Gastdozentur für Architekturtheorie Dr. Torsten Lange, Institut gta, Departement Architektur der ETH Zürich. Seit 2017 ist sie Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) und seit Herbst 2019 unterrichtet und forscht sie als Postdoktorandin am Lehrstuhl für Geschichte und Theorie von Architektur, Kunst und Design an der TU München. Hier setzt sie ihre bisherige Forschung und Lehre zu kollektiven Initiativen, Care-Arbeit, Verräumlichung von Macht und Geschlechterbeziehungen im transkulturellen Kontext fort.

Gabrielle Schaad studied art history, East Asian art history, and medieval archeology in Zurich, Paris, and Tokyo. Her doctorate, completed in 2016 at ETH Zurich, focused on the pitfalls of technological optimism in Japanese art and architecture of the 1960s. In 2016 she held a residential scholarship at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart. From 2013 to 2015, she was a research scholarship grantee of the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) in Tokyo and Saitama. In 2011 she initiated the nomadic exhibition and discussion format Le Foyer – In Process. In addition to previous work as a curatorial assistant, e.g., at the Art Museum of Lucerne and Kunsthaus Zurich, she is the author of numerous catalog contributions and reviews of contemporary art at the interface to architecture and urbanism. 2017-2019 she taught as a scientific assistant at the Visiting Lectureship for Architectural Theory Dr. Torsten Lange, Institute gta, Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. Since 2017 she has been a research associate and lecturer in the Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). In 2019 she joined the Chair for Theory & History of Architecture, Art and Design at the Technical University Munich, where she continues her previous research and teaching on collective initiatives, care work, spatializations of power, and gender relations in a transcultural context.
