Description

The studio Urban Landscape investigates cities and regions as the key sites in which the urgent challenges of climate change, socioeconomic inequality, and uneven development are staked. Engendering just and sustainable transitions requires detailed understanding of both global forces and local specificities, as well as transdisciplinary and participatory engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, if plans and designs are to account for the conflicting, and constantly shifting, needs of people and places.

The semester is divided into several phases: (1) urban space-oriented analysis; (2) fieldwork; (3) reflections and design strategy formulation; and (4) an iterative design process.

The site of this studio is in the Neukölln district of Berlin.

Teaching and learning methods

In the project students work in groups or self-study. There are different learning and teaching methods. As well as graphical and textual work , questionnaires, photo and video works, presentations and excursions are possible. The project is structured as assignment, corrections, feedback and final critique. The student presentation is one of the essential parts of the project. The project can incorporate public presentation and exhibitions.
