Project Week: The Future of Travel

The Future of Travel
6 ECTS | Project Week for Master Students
Methods of "Design Futuring" – which involve both speculative design and forecasting methods – are relevant for basically all disciplines across TUM. In this year's interdisciplinary project week we will explore the topic of "The Future of Travel". How will travel look in 5, 10, or 50 years? Will we move mainly through virtual environments instead of physical transportation? Can everybody design their own mobility system? Will we travel alongside autonomous vehicles and robotic companions? And will carbon-neutral mobility become mandatory? These and other questions will be explored through research, experimentation, and expert input.
You will engage with selected futuring methods from the design and management fields and develop a visual future narrative for the future of travel. Part of the course is a compact 4-day Work-End (Thursday to Monday, including Saturday), which is mandatory to attend. Here, you will run through a Design Sprint and develop artifact ideas within one of the previously developed future narratives, visualize the future world, prototype the idea to make it tangible, and prepare an appropriate presentation format (a video message from the future). You will receive guidance in AI-supported visualization techniques, as well as in filmmaking and editing. In a concluding symposium, invited futuring and travel experts will be invited to critically discuss your future vision and prototypes.
