Climate change, scarcity of resources and loss of natural habitats push us as urban designers to rethink, re-densify and repair our urban areas. To better combine these multiplicities and complexities that the future growing cities must consider, ‘urban regeneration’ as a concept, emerged as a promising paradigm.
The focus of this lecture series is to decode what urban regeneration stands for regarding climate adaptation, housing density, sustainable mobility, and shifts in uses. We will unfold the topic by asking the questions of ‘why’ we need regeneration, ‘what’ is needed for such regeneration processes and ‘who’ drives this urban transformation.
Through a series of lectures given by specialist in the respective areas, we will understand regeneration as a process for urban transformation with a healthy combination of economic, environmental and social dimensions. The processes of urban transformation and actors related to it will also be understood by using practical case studies in the later phase of the lecture series.
