From 2020, the Chair of Urban Development will work on a new DFG-funded research project on the effects of high-speed rail on spatial structure: "Brain Train? High-Speed Rail Stations as focal points of the knowledge economy", together with the Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development (ILS) in Dortmund. It is devoted to the question of how the (often considerable) increase in accessibility in both central and peripheral regions influences the location choices of companies and households at different spatial levels (station environment, city, region).
