In a world characterized by interdependencies, networked analytical thinking forms the basis for shaping future developments in a forward-looking and sustainable manner. Networked, applied thinking as a basic prerequisite for understanding spatial developments and their interrelationships is at the heart of spatial development at the Technical University of Munich. In this sense, the conference "will PROXIMITY still MATTER? - between space, function and process" brings together for the first time actors from science, business, administration and civil society, as well as past, current and future spatial development projects. In a variety of formats, the contributions paint a multifaceted picture of current topics and important discourses and make them tangible for all of us. The aim of the conference is to make existing research work, networks and projects from Prof. Alain Thierstein's 19 years of work accessible to a wider public, to share valuable knowledge and to create new connections, ideas, collaborations and projects through interaction. The result is a forward-looking network of spatial development that brings together the individual players and their knowledge for the first time and celebrates them together.
