Objectives
After completing the course, students are able to select, apply, and develop further different spatial-analyical and conceptual methods, which can be in written, graphical or oral form. Furthermore they are able to develop, prepare, and defend concepts related to the topic of the project.
Description
Projects can be worked on either individually or in studio teams. They are interdisciplinary in terms of contents and methods, i.e. analytical as well as design-oriented.
Each semester the Chair of Urban Development posts proposals for topics on its website: https://www.arc.ed.tum.de/en/re/teaching/current-student-projects/. Besides this, students can suggest their own ideas for topics. In this case it is necessary to consult with a member of the chair beforehand, and to prepare a short written project proposal.
Teaching and learning methods
In the project, students work in groups or self-study. Besides graphical and written analytical and design methods, a wide range of methods such as statistical calculations, questionnaires, photo and video works, presentations, and excursions can be applied. Teaching is usually organised as a sequence of kick-off meeting, work phases with interim presentations and feedback, and final critique. Student presentations are an important part of the learning objectives, hence the project defense can also be held publicly or as part of an exhibition.
Examination
The final written hand-in, poster, model (where applicable) and final presentation are all considered for the assessment.
