PhD Class

The PhD Class provides opportunity for PhD students to present and discuss their PhD project and anything PhD-related. A PhD is a big undertaking - the PhD Class is there to support you as much as possible and to give you the feeling that you are not alone!

What do you do in the PhD Class?

We meet about once a month. At each meeting, one of the doctoral students at our Professorship presents their current status - all doctoral students have a turn once a year. The meetings last about 1.5 hours. The first half hour is reserved for a presentation by the doctoral candidate. Afterwards, we - the doctoral candidates and staff of the Professorship as well as invited guests - discuss questions and problems for about half an hour, before there is time at the end for other questions and concerns regarding doing a PhD.

What else do you offer in the PhD Class?

Exchange, exchange, exchange! Chances are pretty high that a question you have has already been asked by someone at our Professorship. That's why networking is so important to us - and also time to get to know each other and dedicate yourself to your PhD away from the daily grind. For this reason, we offer an annual writing retreat where for one week, from Monday to Friday, we work on our texts in a structured manner and get to know each other better.

But that's not all: We also want you to have the opportunity to further educate yourself: How do I actually read a scientific paper? How do I assess whether what I have read is of high quality? What topics are currently on our minds? We discuss this in the Paper Club, which is organized by the various research teams at our Professorship. As a doctoral candidate, you are very welcome to take part - you even get credits for it!
