Studio Teaching
Chair of Architectural Design and Participation - Prof. Kéré
Our Teaching Approach
At the Chair of Architectural Design & Participation at TUM Munich, led by Pritzker Prize laureate Prof. Francis Kéré, teaching combines architectural design excellence, participatory processes, and sustainable, community-driven solutions.
We believe that impactful architecture responds to local communities, environmental contexts, and the needs of the people it serves. Students engage with real-world contexts that blend cultural understanding, material innovation, and collaborative design - preparing them to address both local and global challenges in architecture.

The Water Ever Series
In recent years, the Chair’s work has centered on water architecture through the ongoing Water Ever series - exploring water as a critical element in the built environment. This focus allows students to develop architectural solutions for:
// Water scarcity and drought - designs for communities with limited water access
// Flood-resilient architecture - adapting to climate change and extreme weather
// On-water housing and public spaces - innovative floating or waterfront structures
// Coastal erosion protection - suitable strategies to preserve shorelines
By engaging with these pressing topics, students not only gain design skills but also contribute to research in local architecture and climate resilience.

Formats We Offer
// Design Studios - Semester-long, team-based projects tackling urgent social and environmental issues through participatory architectural design.
// Seminars - Theoretical courses deepening knowledge in participatory processes, local construction techniques, and global architecture contexts.
// Workshops - Hands-on intensives for rapid prototyping, material testing, and direct engagement with communities.
