Final Review of the seminar “Living Lab in an Unlivable City? Venice Architecture Biennale between Experimentation and Exclusion” at the Chair of History of Architecture and Curatorial Practice.
About the project:
The mutual contingency of Venice and the Biennale is a tale as old as time.” Inextricably linked for over a century, the Biennale once served Venice’s cultural and civic identity before shifting under state control during Fascism. In response to the political unrest of the 1960s and ’70s, it reinvented itself—introducing architecture, decentralisation, and a desire to reconnect with everyday life. Today, however, the event contributes heavily to Venice’s over-tourism and displacement of residents, raising critical concerns about the imbalance between cultural prestige and urban sustainability.
