Research network addresses climate crisis impacts at Nile Delta: Paper presents innovative landscaping

Simultaneously with the "COP 27 - UN Climate Change Conference", TUM research fellow Dr. Sara S. Fouad and Prof. Udo Weilacher have published the peer-review paper "Landscape-based regeneration of the Nile Delta’s waterways in support of water conservation and environmental protection" along with an international team of researchers.

The peer-reviewed article (CiteScore 8.4 and Impact Factor 6.263) has been published in the prestigious scientific journal "Ecological Indicators" and reflects the result of an established collaboration between landscape architecture at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and renowned international researchers from NASA and the University of Southern California. This research network was initiated by Dr. Sara Fouad and covers discplines of landscape architecture, urban design and ecology facing the global climate crisis.
In their newly published paper the researchers suggest a landscape-based design built on the Nile’s natural heritage to efficiently regenerate the areas surrounding the waterways to enable their role in addressing the water budget deficit and ensuring sustainable ecosystem services.

Dr. Sara Fouad is professor of architecture at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport, Cairo, and specialized in waterway regeneration. Since 2020, she holds a Georg Forster Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and is visiting scholar at Prof. Udo Weilacher's Chair of Landscape Architecture and Transformation at the TUM School of Engineering and Design.
