The real estate industry plays a leadership role in societal and ecological discussions due to its economic significance, its responsibility for shaping living and working spaces, and its resource consumption. Therefore, it must advocate for innovation and continuous progress in this context. It is the task of researchers, practitioners, and professionals to establish new strategic thinking and forward-looking development approaches and practices that consider the entire lifecycle of real estate: starting from the spatial and design requirements of users, through resource acquisition, project development and construction, to the operation and renovation of a property.
The Cluster Sustainable Real Estate (CSRE) was founded at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2020. The CSRE is a newly established interdisciplinary platform for knowledge exchange, grounded in the tradition of TUM of fostering discourse between researchers and professionals. It aims to achieve two equally important goals: internal education for students at the TUM School of Engineering and Design, ranging from student projects to dissertations, and external education through part-time certificate programs and a consecutive master's program for emerging professionals in the real estate industry. Through this initiative, the CSRE advocates for an informed and responsible approach in real estate practice. The aim of the education and training is to develop and publicly communicate innovative real estate concepts that contribute to a more sustainable environment.
We achieve this on three different levels of action:
We collaborate closely with all stakeholders involved in the real estate process chain from companies as well as from the disciplines of architecture, engineering, economics, and political and social sciences to conduct outstanding research.
We provide our students and talented emerging professionals from the real estate industry with the opportunity to understand and apply the value chains in real estate management in a process-oriented, responsible, and innovative manner through our specialized and innovative education and training program.
