FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to questions we are frequently asked.

The questions are assigned to the following topics:

Here are some more current topics:

  1. Computer locked
  2. Storage space
  3. Notebooks in the computer room
  1. Computer locked

When I search for a free computer in the pool, I often see computers that are locked. How can I unlock them?

After locking and thus occupying computers got out of hand, locking is only allowed for half an hour. If you have good reasons, e.g. running renderings, please attach a piece of paper with a phone number clearly visible on the monitor. After half an hour the computer can be restarted with the reset button and the old user can thus be "logged out". In case of complaints, please contact the computer room support or the assistants of the chair.

  2.  Storage space

Where can I store data so that I can access it from all computers?

When logging on to the computer, several network drives of the LRZ are connected. Data stored on them can be accessed from all computers in the pool. Via VPN access (LRZ), this data can also be accessed regardless of location. Locally on the computer, the D:drive is available to users without volume limits.

  3. Notebooks in the computer room

May I use my own notebook in the computer room?

Of course, you may use your own notebook in the computer room. A WLAN hotspot from the LRZ is available for Internet connection.
It is prohibited to connect directly to the network in the computer room by cable. This is not a harassment, but unfortunately necessary, because recently there have been increased disturbances of the operation, which are clearly due to external interference by connecting notebooks.
