Entwürfe und Strategien zur Neugestaltung der Straßen des Münchner Kunstareals

Bachelor's Thesis B.Sc. Landscape Architecture and Planning, Summer Semester 2019

Topic

The square in front of the train station is the first public space in a city for commuters and rail passengers. The ensembles of station building and square, which were designed representatively as a "calling card" in their time of origin, are now highly frequented traffic hubs. Regensburg's Bahnhofstrasse is also characterized by city buses, long-distance buses, cabs and car parking. Upcoming changes, such as the dissolution of the long-distance bus station, the construction of a light rail line and the traffic calming of Bahnhofstrasse, offer the opportunity to redesign the square in front of the historic station building.

Task

The first task of the bachelor project is to determine and evaluate the basic principles for the design task of the station forecourt. The project is designed as a group work and is intensively supervised. The subsequent bachelor's thesis is an individual project with three design critiques. A coherent concept is to be developed that combines traffic concerns with spatial qualities. A design is to be developed that creates an attractive city square as a calling card.
