Topic: The aim of the study is to compile analytical findings on the functional interdependencies in northern Switzerland and to identify various options for the content, institutional and spatial design of a metropolitan region in northern Switzerland.

Brief description: The study deals with three thematic areas of the Metropolitan Region of Northern Switzerland. (1) Analysis: What is the initial situation in the Metropolitan Region of Northern Switzerland as a result of functional and institutional interdependencies? What criteria underpin the existence of a Metropolitan Region of Northern Switzerland? (2) Objective: What are the possibilities in terms of thematic orientation, institutional design and spatial delimitation of an MR Northern Switzerland? What is the perspective of the cantons within the metropolitan region? What are the strengths and weaknesses of different models of institutionalisation of the metropolitan region? (3) Process: What steps can be taken to advance the establishment of a metropolitan region of northern Switzerland? How can the relevant cantons be involved in the process? Participants
