Freiluftbox

The Freiluftbox is a converted shipping container with a walk-on platform that stands on a brownfield site at Westkreuz in Neuaubing that has been advertised as building land. The container is a highly visible meeting place for residents and functions as a farm store supplied by regional farmers.

Planning context ★★★☆☆
Thematic planning context:
As a "farm store," the Freiluftbox is supplied with regional products by surrounding farmers, but at the same time is considered a meeting place not only for the neighborhoods of Neuaubing and the Freiham urban expansion area. This theme was already taken up by the open-air supermarket, also developed by bauchplan ).(, whose area has since been built over.

Spatial planning context:
As a temporary use, the Freiluftbox occupies a brownfield site between the urban areas of Neuaubing and Freiham at Westkreuz. The Neuaubing urban area is designated as a redevelopment area, the Freiham area as an urban expansion area. Due to the ongoing large-scale transformations in both urban areas, the Freiluftbox is currently considered an important social connection point where residents from both districts can meet, inform and exchange information about the ongoing development and planning of the districts. The current, spatial effect of the interim use thus goes beyond the farm shop character. However, the open-air box has no influence on the long-term development of the brownfield site, which is why the spatial planning reference remains manageable for the future, but is relevant and pronounced for the moment.
