On Wednesday, 16 July 2025, Mercator Fellow Assoc. Prof. Michela Turrin is holding the keynote "Integrated Performance by Additive Manufacturing" at the Technical University of Munich.
High-performance buildings emerge from an integrated design approach initiated at the earliest stages. This keynote will explore how the intersection of architectural design and building technology can be redefined through additive manufacturing. Case studies from recent projects - ranging from 3D-printed, topology-optimised façade panels to bio-based, wood-derived window frame prototypes - that harness AM to meet technical demands such as thermal regulation, acoustic insulation, structural resilience, and daylight control will be presented.
Dr. Michela Turrin, is Associate Professor of Design Informatics, Digital Technologies Section Leader, and head of research at LAMA – Lab for Additive Manufacturing in Architecture, within the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft. Currently appointed as an AMC Mercator Fellow within the TRR277 "Additive Manufacturing in Construction", her research focuses on simulation-driven, multi-objective optimisation workflows that elevate AM from mere fabrication to a strategy for functional, hybrid design.
