For this new and innovative format the team of the professorship AND welcomes themes and approaches that combine practice and research in the field of architecture and design in a productive way.
Doctoral dissertations should address one of our four research fields: Living Labs, Patterns of Care, 1:1 Prototypes, and Ecologies of Building. The doctoral research is understood to complement and contribute to the ongoing research of the chair and the department. Media-based dissertations apply methodologies of knowledge-producing, transferable, and practice-based research. A media-based dissertation consists of a written scholarly work in combination with another medium, especially a permanently documented creative achievement. This includes: new building materials, product developments, fully realized buildings, video documentaries, interviews, research-based exhibitions, educational and participatory formats, workshops, and publications.
