The student project Draw Your City, developed by TUM architecture students Ruijie Ma, Ruoxi Yang, Yuan Zhang as part of the Tooling Urban Futures program at the Chair of Architectural Informatics, has been selected as the winning entry of the New Realities Competition 2025, organized by XR HUB Bavaria and 1E9.
The competition recognizes innovative projects that explore the potential of Extended Reality (XR) technologies. This year’s focus was on the integration of XR and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with an emphasis on applications in education, industry, culture, and urban development.
Draw Your City is a mobile-based design tool that enables citizens to contribute to the transformation of urban spaces. Users can take photos of buildings, sketch modification ideas, and use AI to generate design proposals, which are visualized on-site using augmented reality. The project aims to support inclusive and participatory urban design by providing an accessible interface for non-professionals.
Developed through research and prototyping phases, the project integrates co-design methods, real-time visualization, and user feedback features. Future developments will address multilingual usability, automated mapping, and expanded data analysis.
The award highlights the project's relevance in addressing urban challenges through digital tools and user-centered design approaches.
