Mountain of the Monks

Monastery Landscape St. Michael

Diploma Thesis and Master's Thesis, Winter Semester 2006/07

Topic

The design area was the site of the former immunity of the St. Michael Monastery, which presented itself as a deteriorating and extensive cultural heritage landscape. At the time of the task, a large portion of the properties were privately owned. The diploma candidates were tasked with designing a contemporary and economically viable open space that was closely linked to the (re)use of the monastery buildings. It was also to be examined to what extent the concept could enhance the State Garden Show 2008. The topic was particularly sensitive as the city was considering selling parts of the buildings to an investor with undefined development goals..
