Keplerareal Regensburg

Der Kampf um den Stadteingang

Semester Project M.A. Landscape Architecture, Winter Semester 2018/19

Topic

Regensburg's old town is enclosed by its historic green belt, at the southern end of which lies the train station and thus represents a prominent entrance to the city. At this neuralgic point in the urban fabric, flows of people, traffic infrastructures, green infrastructures, social, economic and cultural interests meet. Modern architectures of the 1960s are situated in this context. The so-called Keplerbau is now the subject of heated debate. It was to be replaced by a congress center. After a negative referendum, however, it is now unclear how to proceed. Should a green area be built instead of the center? Should the congress center be built in a different form or at a different position in the city? How about not demolishing the Kepler Building at all, but reusing it? Wouldn't that be a great area for the bus station? ...

Task

The master project is looking for a reorganization of the area. Controversial positions are to be discussed and new conceptual approaches to solutions are to be developed. After an intensive analysis of the planning history of the culture and congress center, the viewpoints of different stakeholders are to be worked out and the own design is to be located in this context.
