The dissertation project explores the question of the extent to which working methods of temporary intervention can be used as tools in the participatory design process, to what extent interventions function as spatial experiments for a permanent redesign, and what role the designer can play as an actor between citizens, administration and politics. Methods and processes have been tested in a practice-oriented manner since 2018 with the temporary redesign of Zenettiplatz in Munich – the "Piazza Zenetti". Since 2020, the square has been managed by a citizens' initiative and is to be permanently redesigned in the coming years. As part of the media dissertation, a detailed, permanently citable documentation of the participation, design, construction and development process will be created in the form of a project book. Based on interviews and workshops with actors and experts, methods, processes and the role of the designer will be reflected and transferable guidelines for practice will be created.
