Design Expedition 2: AI-Supported Design Futuring

AI-Supported Design Futuring - Exploring the Future of Work
3 ECTS | Seminar for Master Students
How can AI be used as a creative tool to explore the future of work? This hands-on design expedition invites you to experiment with AI-driven text, image, and video generation tools to envision how the future of work could look like. Through speculative design methods, you will investigate how you can collaborate with AI and how it can support scenario-building, storytelling, and visual representation. Through exploration and critical engagement, you will uncover the possibilities and challenges of AI-assisted creativity. By thoughtfully considering AI’s capabilities and limitations, you will develop a compelling scenario for the future of work, using AI as a tool for creative exploration and futuring. Beyond hands-on experimentation, the course is closely linked to ongoing scientific research. As part of the course, you can choose either to voluntarily participate in a research study investigating human–AI co-creation, or to complete an academic paper critically reflecting on your experience with the AI tools, drawing on relevant research literature. Both options are not part of the course grading, but one of them must be completed to fulfill the learning objectives of the course. Both options offer you a unique opportunity to engage with research firsthand and to deepen your understanding of AI, creative collaboration, and design futuring.
Note: There is no prior knowledge of GenAI tools necessary for this class. The goal of the class is to offer a playground to explore different GenAI tools.
