Schanigarten MUC

Schanigarten MUC is a project collection of self-built architectures for extended outdoor bar areas in the Corona Summer 2021. In order to expand the areas of the gastronomy at short notice, innkeepers are allowed in many places to convert public (street) space into outdoor bar areas. In Munich, the term "Schanigarten", which originated in Vienna, has become the everyday term for these areas. With more or less improvised conversions, the self-constructed architectures of the "Schanigärten" are created.

As part of the course "studio1zu1 - Making of Schanigärten", 20 Schanigärten in different Munich districts were analyzed by students in spring 2021. The focus was on documenting and categorizing the materials and construction methods used. The canteen gardens marked with (*) were recorded in detail and the construction was documented in execution plans on a scale of 1:100 - 1:10.
