Aycan Kızılkaya, M.A.
Aycan Kızılkaya got her B.Sc degree in Architecture from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture, in 2013, in Istanbul, Turkey. After completing her bachelor's degree, she studied Architectural History MSc Program (did not complete) and International Master of Interior Architectural Design Program (IMIAD) at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). She participated in some archaeological excavations during her undergraduate and graduate studies and worked part-time at the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul. In 2015, she studied at HFT Stuttgart for 6 months as an IMIAD exchange student. During that time, she took part in the creative team of IMIAD experiential events and workshops in Stuttgart. In 2017, she took a short course about "modern interior architecture: case studies and historiography" at Politecnico di Milano, Italy with the ATHENS Program. In 2018, she started her PhD in "Interior Architecture" at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Institute of Science and Technology. Since 2017, she has been working as a research and teaching assistant in the ITU Graduate School, IMIAD Program, and has contributed to various national and international symposiums and workshops. She was a visiting scholar at Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW), Institute of Interior Design and Scenography in Basel, Switzerland with the Swiss Government Research Excellence Scholarship between September 2021 and September 2022. Next year (2022-2023), she is going to spend her fellowship year researching alternative theatre spaces in the context of adaptive re-use in Germany at TUM with funding by TUBITAK, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye.
Her studies mostly focus on theater architecture, theater interiors, and performance spaces by adapting existing architectural buildings, practices of adaptive re-use in contemporary theaters, site-specific theaters, and temporal performing art spaces and design studios.
