insiTUMlab

The insiTUMlab is a new born analytical infrastructure for non-destructive in-situ studies of Cultural Heritage, part of the Chair of Conservation-Restoration, Art Technology and Conservation Science of the Technical University Munich. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (Project number 492717225) for the next five years (starting in 2022) and afterwards, it will be supported by the TUM.

The new facility aims to build knowledge on queries about cultural heritage. It offers access to a set of cutting-edge non-destructive, complementary, and portable analytical tools for in-situ measurements of architectural surfaces and artworks for their understanding and preservation. The investigation can be carried out in the same site where the artifact is located or exhibited (museum, conservation-restoration workshops, open air location, etc.). The analytical service and related competences are available for research groups within TUM, external public and private institutions, individual conservation professionals and other users.
