insiTUMlab

The insiTUMlab is a new born analytical infrastructure for non-destructive in-situ studies of Cultural Heritage, part of the Chair of Conservation-Restoration, Art Technology and Conservation Science of the Technical University Munich. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (Project number 492717225) for the next five years (starting in 2022) and afterwards, it will be supported by the TUM.

The infrastructure aims to build knowledge on queries about cultural heritage. It offers access to a set of cutting-edge non-destructive, complementary, and portable analytical instruments for in-situ measurements of architectural surfaces and artworks for their understanding and preservation.
Thanks to the portability of the instruments, the investigation can be carried out in the same site where the artifact is located or exhibited (museum, conservation-restoration workshops, open-air location, or others).

The analytical service and related competencies are available for research groups within TUM, all conservation professionals and heritage researchers from public/private institutions, small and individual enterprises and any other user.

Official collaboration partners are the Chair of Non-destructive testing (TUM), the Chair Biogenic Polymers (TUM), the Doerner Institut, the Deutsches Museum, the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, the Institute of Ápplied Physics "Nello Carrara" (IFAC-CNR) and the University of Barcelona.
