Interactive Visualization - Virtual Art Spaces

Digital worlds and sensory extensions are already an essential part of urban environments and cultural spaces. They open up new forms of artistic expression and spatial experience. Therefore, we are interested in an architectural perspective on this topic. We wonder how trained architects can contribute to the design of virtual spaces: How can we structure complex and hybrid spaces created by new media? Can we apply classical design approaches to digital spaces? How do physical space and virtual realities intermingle?

The course takes place in collaboration with the XR HUB Bavaria within the project XR STAGE (https://xrhub-bavaria.de/topic/xrstage/) - an initiative to promote new media in art and culture. Together artists and actors from the creative economy we will develop experimental concepts and prototypes for virtual and hybrid spaces. Supported by conceptual and technical inputs we analyze and discuss interactions, perceptions and communication in virtual spaces. During the semester, the projects will be further developed and iterated in regular feedback rounds. Supported by a programming workshop, the concepts will be implemented as working prototypes.

Programming experience is not required for this course, but we expect intrinsic motivation to explore these topics. Hardware necessary for the workshop (VR goggles) will be provided.

We are happy to cooperate with the Architekturgalerie München, Kollektiv Crèmebach, the Junges Theater Linz, Tatjana Busch and others in this project!
