Membrane Structures

Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lars Schiemann

The aim of the supplementary subject is to teach the entire design, planning and execution process of lightweight load-bearing structures, in particular membrane structures. In addition to experimental and numerical form-finding, students learn about and apply cutting calculations, dimensioning and the detailed design of membrane structures.

The supplementary subject is therefore divided into the following components:
- Excursions to membrane structures and visits to membrane construction companies
- Lectures on the fundamentals of membrane construction
- Workshop lasting several days with the design of a membrane structure

A special aspect is that the design is to be carried out in an interdisciplinary collaboration between architecture and civil engineering students.
