Milan Chakrabarti studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich and graduated in 2011 with a degree in engineering (Diplom-Ingenieur). From 2011 to 2015, he worked at 03 Architekten in Munich, focusing on competitions, execution planning, and construction management. In 2015, he entered the public building administration service and completed the civil service traineeship for structural engineering (Hochbau) in 2017, earning the title of Regierungsbaumeister.
From 2017 to 2021, he headed the museum division at the State Building Authority Munich 1. In his role as client representative, he was responsible for all construction projects of major state museums such as the Pinakotheken, the Haus der Kunst, as well as the Glyptothek and the Staatliche Antikensammlungen. He also oversaw the state-managed portion of the Kunstareal Master Plan and broke new ground in planning the refurbishment of the Neue Pinakothek using BIM (Building Information Modeling) for large-scale projects within the State Building Administration.
From 2021 to 2025, he served as deputy head of the “Digital Transformation” division at the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport. During this time, he established the central BIM coordination unit, developed the BIM training concept, and played a key role in shaping change management for the introduction of BIM in the State Building Administration.
In 2025, he joined the Professorship of Urban Design at TUM, where he leads the interdisciplinary seminar Public Planning Lab and explores the further development of the Kunstareal Master Plan through his research.
