Sckell Students Award

promoter: BAYERISCHE AKADEMIE DER SCHÖNEN KÜNSTE (Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts) in cooperation with the Chair of Landscape Architecture and Transformation, Technical University Munich

In connection with the Sckell Ring of Honour awarded by the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, the Sckell Students Award is held irregularly in form of a poster competition, in which students are asked to show in word and image a conceptual engagement with the Sckell Ring laureate and his or her current relevance for landscape architecture and the art of the garden.

Prize money is overall € 5,000. Entitled to participate are students of landscape architecture, garden history and related fields, who were registered at a university or college in German-speaking countries (Austria, Germany, Switzerland). The award ceremony will take place in connection with the bestowal of the Sckell Ring of Honour  in Munich.

Sckell Students Award 2023

The Sckell Students Award, created in 2014, is intended to acknowledge the work of the Sckell Ring of Honor laureate and focuses on the importance of their practical and theoretical work for young landscape architects and garden art historians. On the occasion of the Sckell Ring of Honor 2023, awarded to Professor em. Dr. rer. hort. Erika Schmidt, the Sckell Students Award 2023 was again awarded to three students. Both ceremonies took place on October 12, 2023 at the Munich Residence. The winner of the Sckell Students Award 2023 were

  • 1. Prize (2.500 €): Oliver Bursi, TU Munich, Landscape Architecture and Planning
  • 2. Prize (1.500 €): Bianca Funtak, TU Munich, Landscape Architecture and Planning
  • 3. Prize (1.000 €): Jana Langner, TU Munich, Landscape Architecture and Planning

The award ceremony was coupled with the Sckell anniversary to mark the 200th anniversary of his death. On this occasion, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte(Central Institute for Art History) invited people to an event lasting several days from October 12th, 2023 - October 14th, 2023 to present new garden-historical research aspects as well as current garden monument preservation challenges.

Sckell Students Award 2017

In 2014, the Sckell-Medal laureate was Prof. em. John Dixon Hunt. The award ceremony took place in connection with the bestowal of the Sckell Ring of Honour at 19 Oktober 2017 in Munich.

Sckell Students Award 2014

In 2014, the Sckell-Medal laureate was Prof. em. Peter Latz. The award ceremony took place in connection with the bestowal of the Sckell Ring of Honour at 30 Oktober 2014 in Munich.
