The chair of LAT is directed since April 2009 (Chair´s history) by the Professor Dr. Udo Weilacher and is concentrated on the reflective design as well as on conducting research on the transformation of complex landscape structures.
Landscape has always played an important role as a generator of new ideas for urban developments and architectural concepts. Never before has Landscape Architecture been as fundamental in the shaping of future global environment. In almost all territories, landscape is directly or indirectly influenced by industrial production processes. Current discussions regarding the sustainability of global living environments demonstrate that landscape architects should take over a key role in the development of future living spaces. The LAT chair prepares its students practically and theoretically to be in close co-operation with all neighbouring disciplines in order to successfully take this key role.
The research activities of the LAT chair are focused on the historical, current, and future relationship between society and landscape. The chair is particularly interested in questions concerning the future of post-industrial landscapes as new types of living environments for both man and nature.
First we shape our environment, and then it shapes us.
