After studying medicine and training as a consulting physician, Reinhard Hohlfeld went to a clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as Heisenberg fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG). 1990 he was appointed professor of neurology and neurosciences at Munich's Ludwig Maximilians University. For his research, mainly on autoimmune disorders, we won several awards such as the Heinz-Meier-Leibnitz Prize of the DFG and the Sobek Prize for research into multiple sclerosis.

Several fellowships and teaching assignments led him to different unviersities in the USA, where he became known amongst other as Director of the Department of Gardens and Landscape Studies at the renowned research institute of Harvard University in Dumbarton Oaks. Since 1994 he was professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

John Dixon Hunt counts amongst the most important theoreticians and historians of landscape architecture internationally, and he received many honours, most recently the Sckell Ring of Honour 2017. On the occasion of the award ceremony – and, connected to this, the ceremony for the Skell Students Award – JD Hunt was a guest at the LAI.

Marc Treib is one of the most internationally renowned specialist authors on the subject of landscape architecture and modernist architecture and has written numerous monographs, e.g. on Isamu Noguchi, Thomas D. Church, Garrett Eckbo, Dan Kiley and other greats of modernism. Marc Treib is Professor Emeritus of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley/ USA. He has received numerous awards for his work, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, an American Academy in Rome Fellowship, ASLA Honor Awards and the Best Exhibition Publication Award from the Society of Architectural Historians. Lois and his wife Dr. Franziska Weinberger both live in Vienna and since 1999 they are working jointly on art projects. 1994–1995 Lois Weinberger taught at the Academy in Karlsruhe and one year later he won a residency at the Artists House Bethanien in Berlin. Both artists enjoy international renown and during the 1990s they had a noteworthy influence on the debate on art and nature.
