The Centre of Polish Sculpture at Orońsko

Summer term 2016 – Master's studio landscape architecture
module 1 AR 7206 Masterprojekt 1, module 2 AR 7206 Masterprojekt 2, Integrierte Disziplin 1/2

The manor at Orońsko had been the place of cultural activities for more than a century. In the late 1960s, artists decided to install a center for sculptural art. After a period of both advancements and throwbacks, in 1981 the center was turned into a state institution. Today it cooperates with similar institutions as member of the European Landart Network (ELAN).

During the initial analysis phase, students will have the opportunity to occupy themselves with a wide choice of topics: 19th-century garden art, 20th-century sculpture parks, or problems of cultural landscape transformation in Poland. The possible topics for the design phase are similarly varied. Central aims would be: (a) to upgrade the centre's internal configuration under consideration of its lost historical spatial structure, (b) to improve its connection with the village, and (c) to raise awareness for the centre within the region. The opening up of the qualities of the surrounding south-Mazovian landscape should be taken into consideration to enhance Orońsko's position within the nexus of regional communities.
